Cairns Adventure

Cairns hotels

Living in or around Cairns , there are some great things to do for those thrill seekers amongst us.

Tully Gorge, which is about a two hour drive south of Cairns, is said to be the best white water rafting river in Australia and New Zealand, and is always better after the ‘wet season’!

A couple of local companies run tours, but arguably one of the best is Raging Thunder. They organise trips from their base in Cairns to the Tully Gorge or, for the beginner, Barron Falls.

Everyone I know who has done one of these trips has not been disappointed!
Other activities they arrange include sea kayaking, ballooning, horse riding, bungy jumping and skydiving. The view from the skies either ‘jumping’ into Mission Beach or ballooning across the Cairns hinterlands is absolutely breath-taking and well worth the expense.

Then of course there’s the Great Barrier Reef , the number one tourist attraction in the Far North and the envy of everyone elsewhere. You can learn scuba diving on the various tours and, personally, I would recommend the area around Mission Beach as the reef is much closer than anywhere else and you can top off the day by visiting Dunk Island, a short catamaran ride away.

My kids loved the reef trip and the staff were great with the kids. Of course the highlight was seeing Nemo!
